Will the price of electricity increase for the population in Uzbekistan?
The Minister of Energy Jorabek Mirzamahmudov answered this question.
"The project published now envisages the establishment of new tariffs only for legal entities, but the prices for residents are not changed.
Before setting differentiated tariffs for the population, we must first ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity. That is, if the price increases, but there is a power outage again, it will cause the rightful objections of the population. For this reason, we are currently accelerating the work of increasing generations and modernization of networks.
We are planning to submit to the Government a project to introduce differentiated electricity tariffs for the population from May 1, 2024, only if we can ensure uninterrupted electricity supply. But this does not mean that the price will increase from this very day, for now everything is just a project.
The differentiated tariff means that the price will increase for households that consume more electricity than the "social norm", for example, houses with a swimming pool, sauna, and many household appliances, that is, relatively rich and self-sufficient households. means Now 15 percent of the population consumes more than 300 kW•h of electricity per month. And the consumption of 75 percent of the population does not exceed 200 kW•h," said the Minister of Energy.
